Serious Thinking

Just because someone buys meat in a butcher's shop doesn't mean it is free of biogenic amines. And remember... when asking for minced meat make sure you watch them doing it!, Luís Coelho (CAP)

INESC TEC integrates the European EIT Digital community

EIT Digital, a platform for the European digital transformation, promoted the inauguration of the EIT Digital Braga Satellite, a converging space for the EIT Digital in Portugal. The event took place on 26 June at the premises of GNRation, in Braga.

INESC TEC is one of the 200 European entities involved in EIT Digital, which promotes innovation and the consequent digital transformation in Europe, particularly through research, training and entrepreneurship.

The goal of this event was also to stress the importance of EIT Digital in the revolution of the digital media, in particular, in the areas of industry, economy and society, following the motto “For a strong digital Europe”.

José Manuel Mendonça, Chairman of INESC TEC's Board, was one of the integral elements of the panel entitled “The European innovation funnel”. The session was also attended by the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.

Other partnerships with the collaboration of INESC TEC

In addition to Digital, INESC TEC currently integrates two more EIT innovation communities, namely Raw Materials and Manufacturing.

EIT Raw Materials is the strongest partnership ever created for the raw materials sector, in which the goal is to strengthen the innovation through the introduction of new solutions, products and services for the exploration, extraction, processing, recycling and sustainable replacement of raw materials.

As for EIT Manufacturing, it intends to stimulate the European innovation ecosystem in this area and to promote a transformation of the European industry, in line with the so-called fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), making it more competitive and sustainable in economic, environmental and social terms. INESC TEC integrated this community at the end of 2018.

What is EIT?

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an independent body of the European Union that aims at enhancing the European competitiveness, its sustainable economic growth and the creation of employment, thus promoting and reinforcing the cooperation between the main business, educational and research organisations.

It’s a European initiative that enables innovators and entrepreneurs to develop worldwide solutions for the challenges of society and creates growth and qualified employment, being organised by different communities that intend to execute innovation movements under large working areas. Besides the Digital, Manufacturing and Raw Materials, others areas in consideration are Alumni, Climate, Food, Health, InnoEnergy and UrbanMobility.
