INESC TEC and FCUL research enables the access to the human genome

The scientific article “GenoDedup: Similarity-Based Deduplication and Delta-Encoding for Genome Sequencing Data”, co-authored by João Paulo, researcher at INESC TEC’s and UMinho’s High-Assurance Software Lab (HASLab), presents a new data deduplication solution that enables the storage and access to human genome information more quickly, and with lower associated storage costs.

Written in collaboration with Vinicius Cogo and Alysson Bessani, from the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon, this article was accepted for publication in the scientific journal IEEE Transactions on Computers, one of the most relevant magazines in the field of Computer Science.

This new deduplication solution aims to reduce the costs associated with the storage of genomic information, while ensuring the efficient access to said info. This way, this solution will help streamlining and accelerating current scientific studies focused on the human genome, thus facilitating new discoveries.

Published by IEEE, the IEEE Transactions on Computers magazine was classified with an impact factor of 3.13 in 2019; it is also classified as Q1 according to SCIMAGO, and A*, according to Core Rank 2015.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
