INESC TEC Researcher wins “Best Student 2019” award

João Henrique Araújo, researcher at the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) at INESC TEC, and former student of the Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ISEP/P.Porto), won the “Best Student 2019” award, presented at the commemorative session of the 35th anniversary of the Polytechnic of Porto, which took place last February 28th.

This distinction recognises the work developed in the Master’s thesis, “Comunicações Óticas de Alto Débito Subaquáticas”, developed throughout the curricular traineeship at the Optical and Electronic Technologies Research Laboratory (OET), part of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia. This dissertation focused on the comprehensive study of the characteristics of different elements from underwater wireless communication systems (UOWC – Underwater Optical Wireless Communication), as well as on the design and manufacturing of a transmission module and an optical receiver module.

“I’m extremely proud of this award, since it shows all the work developed and commitment shown in the Master’s dissertation, and all through the academic course at ISEP”, says João Henrique Araújo concerning his thesis, supervised by Francisco Pereira (ISEP), Henrique Salgado and Luís Pessoa (INESC TEC).

Still on the dissertation, which contributed directly to the final average of 19/20, the research assistant adds: “I’d like to thank P.Porto and ISEP for the excellent academic training, my family, colleagues and friends, who accompanied me during this period, my teachers for their motivation and guidance, and INESC TEC for the opportunity to do my dissertation in its laboratory.”

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FEUP.
