Merit grant awarded to INESC TEC researcher

Ricardo Macedo, researcher at INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab), received a merit grant from the University of Minho, supported entirely by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, through the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES). The ceremony took place on October 26, at the Medieval Hall of UMinho’s rectory.

Ricardo Macedo, currently attending the fourth year of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science (MAP-i), obtained a final mark of 19.25 out of 20 in the academic year 2016/2017, the last year of the Integrated Master in Informatics Engineering. During this year, Ricardo developed his master thesis, entitled “Secure Computation in NoSQL Databases“, and achieved a final mark of 20 out of 20, the highest grade in the fifth and final year of the Integrated Master in Informatics Engineering.

The thesis proposes a practical framework for providing privacy-preserving primitives in NoSQL databases to ensure secure computation over sensitive data. This work was developed within the framework of the European project SafeCloud – focused on improving the security and privacy of data stored in the cloud, thus making current computing services and infrastructures safer.

Merit grants aim to acknowledge students who, in each academic year, achieve exceptional performance, i.e., obtain a final mark of 16 out of 20, or above.

The merit grants, which aim at engaging the top students and promoting their performance, cover all students enrolled at UMinho, namely in Bachelor, Integrated Master, and Master’s degrees.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
