What is your professional background with INESC TEC?

We’ve been collaborating with INESC TEC for more than 10 years, in different projects  from several research areas. In particular, I have been working with INESC TEC researchers on the development of innovative methods and tools for supply chain management, production networks and the definition of strategic roadmaps. We have participated in many projects funded by the European Commission, under FP7 and H2020. Both the institutions are involved in other European initiatives like Manufuture.

Briefly describe the main projects you have carried out in collaboration with INESC TEC.

We have been working on the 2-year EU project NextNet, namely on the creation a cross-sectoral initiative at European level to increase integration between production and distribution, proposing research and innovation priorities for the future of supply chains. Last year, we have organised several workshops with academic and industrial experts in Porto and Brussels and we have few publications together, the majority as a follow-up of our work.

What are the significant outcomes of these projects that you can highlight?

Together with the other partners of the project, we have developed supply chain scenarios, based on the analysis of trends and their impact on supply chains. We have also developed the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda an action plan for the Supply Chains in 2030, which will be used by the European Commission as one of the inputs for H2020, and by companies, so they can check their position in terms of innovation in Supply chain.

What is your opinion on your experience working with INESC TEC?

Most of the joint projects we are working on started from industrial needs, and we have been focusing on several similar features at industrial level (such as large number of SMEs, strong presence of fashion companies, machine producers, etc.). Our complementary expertise contributed to a rewarding collaboration. It is always intellectually exciting to work with researchers from INESC TEC.

What is the possibility of future collaborations with INESC TEC?

We are finalising a new book with the most important results of the project NEXT-NET, and Springer will publish it in the second half of 2020. We look forward to other future collaboration, particularly within the scope of the new framework of Horizon Europe. We are also willing to advance and expand our scientific collaboration with the creation of other joint actions.
