Meet UT Austin

What is the connection between UT Austin and INESC TEC?

The connection was first forged by Rui Oliveira, when he visited UT Austin for a conference. We chatted about our work and Rui invited me to collaborate with him and some of his colleagues. That is how I started working with the wonderful folks at INESC TEC!

What are the main results of this collaboration?

We have published a paper at the top conference on storage research: the 20th USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST ’22). We are also making the associated software artifact public.

We keep collaborating on topics related to storage and high-performance computing. The BigHPC project will result in further publications and software artifacts.

How do you rate your experience with INESC TEC?

It has been great working with the talented students and researchers of INESC TEC, who bring a different perspective to the problems we work on together. I found the students involved in the project to have an excellent work ethic – it was a pleasure working with them.

What do you value most in this collaboration?

Working with INESC TEC folks on the BigHPC project has been rewarding since I get to learn about real-world problems from Portuguese companies, and then brainstorm about solutions to these problems with some of the best researchers in Portugal.

What can we expect from UT Austin in the upcoming years?

I will certainly continue to collaborate with INESC TEC members. We plan to submit proposals for continued funding of the work we are carrying out together.
