What is your professional background with INESC TEC?

My professional association with INESC TEC developed within the scope of the B1-CHIC project, which ends in late 2020; the project comprehends the creation of a technology platform to support the activities of the National Film Plan (joint initiative of the Directorate-General for Education and the Ministry of Culture), which aims to promote cinematographic culture among students of the different grades of the compulsory education system.

Briefly describe the main projects you have carried out in collaboration with INESC TEC.

Concerning the activity B1 of the CHIC project, Cinemateca and INESC TEC worked on analysis tools for cinematographic works, by exploring, on the one hand, the field of data visualisation created from the analysis of moving images (colour, type of movement and framing), and on the other hand, by creating tools for visualising the relationships between metadata of different cinematography works.

What are the significant outcomes of these projects that you can highlight?

We’ve created model that can be further improved in other projects, focusing on more real data from the Cinemateca’s moving image collections, which will support the tasks of cataloguing and indexing those collections, and provide new analysis tools to specialised researchers from the digital humanities and film studies.

What is your opinion on your experience working with INESC TEC?

It was a very productive experience, due to the practical results achieved and the establishment of a communication channel with an agent who understood the specific needs of a film archive quite well.

What is the possibility of future collaborations with INESC TEC?

I’m looking forward to it!
