To observe the International Volunteer Day, some members of the INESC TEC community took part in several volunteering initiatives in Porto and Braga, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to solidarity, inclusion and support for local communities.
In Porto, the volunteers were involved in various areas of social and community intervention. They took part in animal socialisation activities at the Canil do ICBAS, carried out creative and decorative work at the Centro Comunitário São Cirilo, supported patients and services at Hospital de São João, and helped assemble kits for mothers through the Bebés de S. João project. The initiatives also included gift wrapping with the Animais de Rua association, as well as organising spaces, collecting food and cataloguing books at Ajudaris.
In Braga, INESC TEC personnel supported the Refood association, contributing to the preparation and packaging of meals, food organisation and the execution of daily logistical tasks, e.g., organising the space and delivering meals to beneficiaries.
Promoted by INESC TEC’s Technical Committees for Social Responsibility and the Commission for Diversity and Inclusion, these initiatives provided participants with first-hand experience of the impact of volunteering in different contexts, fostering not only support for those most in need but also strengthening the connection between the institution and the communities we’re part of.
