Now that 2024 is almost over, we are proud to acknowledge our achievements and the strength of our community throughout this year.
During the past 12 months, INESC TEC has significantly reinforced its position as an institution that promotes scientific advancement, technological transformation and economic and social progress.
With a fundamental commitment to intellectual thoroughness and the pursuit of excellence, our significant involvement in European and national initiatives has allowed us to contribute to the evolution of science and technology domains with the potential to transform the innovation capacity of Portugal and Europe, and to accelerate the transformation of knowledge into practical application and the response to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. At the European level, we have an unprecedented simultaneous participation in 80 European projects – 11 of which are coordinated by us -, and the leadership of the first Teaming project in Portugal, in the field of engineering. In the national landscape, we rely on a massive mobilisation of our efforts for 22 of the Mobilising Agendas and several other domains of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The clarity of our mission, the solidity of the organisational model and our institutional growth were at the core of our path – during a year in which our Strategic Plan for the period up to 2030 was approved and is already underway. The progress in the foundations of the institution reflects our commitment to promote an environment that fully supports science, technology and innovation, a culture of collaboration, and an opportunity for each member of our community to contribute with the best version of themselves.
Looking ahead to 2025 is, above all, sensing how close an extraordinary moment is: the 40th anniversary of INESC TEC. This occasion will be an opportunity to celebrate the path we have already taken and reflect on the road we seek to follow to continue to shape the future. We will observe it with several national and international activities, initiatives to involve our broader communities, creative projects in the media and commemorative events. Through these actions, we will seek to strengthen ties with our partners and peers, and the general public, in an inclusive dialogue that strengthens the responsible conduct of our work in favour of scientific and technological progress and innovation.
From the solid foundations we have built to date, in 2025 we will advance our involvement in European programmes, further solidify the impact of our participation in the PRR Mobilising Agendas, and increase our investment in research and innovation fields with significant transformative potential. In addition to all these efforts, we will remain dedicated to the training of talent, to interdisciplinary collaboration, to the integration of scientific excellence with impact on innovation, to the promotion of the ecosystems in which we’re involved, and the success of public policies where we play a key role as actors and experts – with our usual performance in terms of delivering results.
We sincerely thank all those who have contributed to INESC TEC’s journey: from our community to our partners and those who have supported us with unparalleled dedication, drive and creativity. We enter this new year and a new decade with an open spirit, ambition, and a shared sense of accountability, determined to make even a bigger difference in the challenges we address.
