As part of its mission to support the local community, INESC TEC donated a washing machine to the Associação dos Albergues Nocturnos do Porto (AANP). The equipment – which had been used within the scope of the European project InteGrid, and was no longer necessary for the researchers’ work – will serve a greater purpose for the association’s clothing service, thus helping the team to support the homeless population.
As explained by INESC TEC’s Technical Commission for Social Responsibility, this donation is a way to “give appliances a new life while contributing positively to the local community”. Besides addressing external requests for help, associating itself or organising solidarity campaigns, or even exploring internal projects’ results for the benefit of the community, the Technical Commission for Social Responsibility aims to promote donation campaigns, a key Social Responsibility dimension.
“The Commission aims to attend to the local communities of INESC TEC’s different hubs, like Porto, Braga and Vila Real, and to raise the members’ awareness of the need to help others, while emphasising the relevance of their involvement”, stated the Commission.
The Commission scheduled several initiatives for the current year, like volunteer actions, blood donation and other campaigns, which will be disseminated in due course.
