INESC P&D Brazil successfully completes a project for the automation of a power grid

The RADAR project – “New Elements of Network Automation, with Advanced Distributed Intelligence Functions”, culminated with a workshop attended by representatives of EDP Brasil (the funding company), researchers associated with INESC P&D Brazil and members of the board of INESC P&D Brasil. The representatives of the project’s technology-based partner, STPTec, also participated in the project.

The main goal of the project, which was successfully achieved, was the development of a recloser prototype for medium voltage operations, with innovative constructive aspects and capable of natively receive protection and control functions within the framework of intelligent networks. The development of such functions was also one of the project’s objectives, as well as the creation of PRO P&D, a prototyping laboratory inaugurated on May 2019. Together, intelligent software and equipment should be able to address today’s issues in distribution networks, specifically the reduction of downtime (outages).

The project “New Elements of Network Automation, with Advanced Distributed Intelligence Functions” is funded by EDP Brasil, in accordance with the regulation by the Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). The research was carried out and managed by STPTec and INESC P&D Brasil.
