INESC TEC organises international workshop on recommendation systems and user modelling

A team of INESC TEC’s researchers was responsible for the organisation of the international workshop ORSUM 2019 – 2nd Workshop on Online Recommender Systems and User Modelling, focused on incremental models for recommendation and user modelling. The event took place on 19 September in Copenhagen, Denmark, as part of the ACM RecSys 2019 conference and following the success of the first edition held at The Web Conference in Lyon (France) in April of 2018.

In this event, around 100 researchers had the opportunity to attend the presentation of six scientific papers of researchers from different countries, namely the Czech Republic, China, the Netherlands, Israel and Portugal, as well as to attend the lecture given by the guest speaker Paolo Cremonesi, Professor and researcher at Politecnico di Milano, in Italy, and CTO of Contentwise.

The workshop aimed to promote the discussion of recent advances in the development and improvement of algorithms capable of processing continuous data flows to build recommendation models and user profiles of online services, such as music streaming, personalisation of graphical user interfaces of websites, ad targeting, news personalisation, and adaptation to context.

João Vinagre and Alípio Jorge, researchers of INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) and Professors of the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in collaboration with Albert Bifet and Marie Al-Ghossein from the Laboratoire de Traitement et Communication de l’Information (LTCI) of the Télécom ParisTech, Polytechnic School of Paris and Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT) were responsible for the organisation.

Besides the papers presented in the workshop, the work “Incremental Multi-Dimensional Recommender Systems: Co-Factorization vs Tensors” was also presented, co-authored by Miguel Ramalho and Rafaela Bastos, former collaborators of INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support, in collaboration with João Vinagre and Alípio Jorge.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FCUP.
