INESC TEC promotes first C ++ programming Meetup in Porto

On February 12, INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) held the first C++ Meetup in the city of Porto, which brought together stakeholders from different institutions in the region. This was the first of several events organised by CTM, focused on this important programming language.

According to Luiz Pires, one of the organisers and researcher at CTM, “the Meetup is an open event that aims to disseminate knowledge and promote a space for discussing issues and solutions found by users of this programming language, in an informal and friendly environment. We are very happy with the outcome and already thinking about the next session”.

“The first event had approximately 20 participants, including INESC TEC students and employees, but also executives from companies like Critical TechWorks, showing the significant interest in this initiative”, added Pedro Carvalho, senior researcher at CTM.

One of the most popular commercial languages, C++ is a multi-paradigm and general-purpose programming language, widely used in commercial contexts for its great performance, flexibility, abstraction capacity and hardware access.

Developed by Danish computer scientist Bjarne Stroustrup, in the 1980s, C++ has been gradually evolving through the ISO C++ Committee, which has been keeping the language up to date and according to new programming requirements and standards, such as generic programming, functional programming, multi-thread, etc.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and IPP-ISEP.
