INESC TEC researchers in the TOP 5 of the Computer Science ranking in Portugal

João Catalão, researcher at the Centre of Power and Energy Systems (CPES), and João Gama, researcher at the Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Laboratory (LIAAD), reached third and fourth places, respectively, in the Computer Science ranking in Portugal.

The INESC TEC researchers stand out among the 17 Portuguese experts selected, mainly due to their scientific and academic background. João Catalão perceives this recognition as “the acknowledgement by peers, since the ranking is not based mainly on the number of publications, but on the number of citations through the h-index”.

João Gama said that this acknowledgment “was made possible by the quality of students and collaborators”. “Having a high rank is definitely a great achievement. In addition, it honours the University of Porto and INESC TEC”, added the researcher.

The ranking is based on the Google Scholar h-index, considering only scientists with an h-index equal to orgreater than 40; it also relies on the number of citations, as well as the number of publications indexed in the DBLP. The ranking also takes into account the awards and accolades of each scientist.

This ranking – included in the sixth edition of the world ranking of the best scientists in the field of Computer Science in 2020, promoted by Guide2Research – aims to improve the academic community’s status and provide the most influential contributions in the field of Computer Science.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with UP-FCUP and UP-FEP.
