INESC TEC’s project to perceive through different eyes present in a photographic exhibition

A project from INESC TEC’s Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER) gave rise to a photographic exhibition. The exhibition, entitled «Outros Retratos e Auto-retratos» (in English, «Other Portraits and Self-Portraits»), is present at the Library of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) until 13 December.

Images of human retina, obtained from the SCREEN-DR project, led by C-BER’s coordinator, Aurélio Campilho, are the raw material of this photographic exhibition by Renato Roque, which was inaugurated on 14 November.

Similar to a fingerprint, each image of the retina is a biometric feature, which suggested the focus of the work – the identity issue. Based on this idea, the photographic project was created with these ‘portraits’ of INESC TEC’s collaborators and with ‘self-portraits’ from the author.

During the exhibition period, researchers associated with the SCREEN-DR project will visit the FEUP’s Library – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 13:00 p.m. to 14:30 p.m., in the room adjacent to the exhibition area – in order to acquire new images from the ocular fundus of those who that are interested. These images and corresponding processing results will then be given to the person portrayed.

With free entrance, the “Outros Retratos e Auto-retratos” (in English “Other Portraits and Self-Portraits”) exhibition can be visited on working days from 8:30 a.m. to 19:30 p.m.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with UP-FEUP.
