INESC TEC’s researchers published a volume entitled “Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics”

Alberto Adrego Pinto and João Paulo Almeida, researchers of INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) and José Fernando Oliveira, researcher of INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI), in partnership with Maria João Alves, professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, published the volume entitled Operational Research IO 2018, Aveiro, Portugal, September 5-7.

This is the volume number 278 of the Springer series called Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics, from the publisher with the same name. This volume, which was published in March, includes an introduction by Professor Immanuel Bomze from the University of Vienna, Austria, and includes 16 contributions selected and presented by the participants in the IO2018 – XIX Congress of APDIO – Portuguese Association for Operational Research, held between 5 and 7 September of 2018, in Aveiro.

With this publication, the editors continue the project that published a volume with selected contributions from the XVIII Congress of APDIO , which took place in 2017, and that intends to continue to publish on a wide range of operational research applications using recent techniques such as the developments in the areas of linear and non-linear programming, mixed-integer, data analysis and clustering techniques, among others.

Operational Research (OI) is an applied science oriented to the resolution of real problems, which aims at introducing elements of objectivity and rationality in the decision-making processes, without neglecting the subjective and organisational framework elements that characterise the problems.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and UP-FEUP.
