The 21st edition of SEGUREX – Salão Internacional da Proteção, Segurança e Defesa took place in Lisbon, between October 10 and 12; the event was organised by the AIP Foundation, with INESC TEC attending to join a panel dedicated to the importance of innovation and R&D as a strategic point of national competitiveness.
With the involvement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as other official entities focusing on security, SEGUREX aims to showcase the evolution of the sectors – especially the technological trends of the various market segments related to security and defence – and explore new business opportunities.
INESC TEC was part of the Strategic Committee that organised the conference dedicated to Enquadramento do comércio internacional em matéria de Segurança e Defesa: Oportunidades e sua contextualização [International trade framework concerning Security and Defence: Opportunities and contextualization]. INESC TEC was invited to participate in Panel 7 – Oportunidades de negócio para a BTID (Base Tecnológica e Industrial de Defesa): aspetos relevantes da oferta nacional [Business opportunities for Defence’s Technology and Industrial Sectors: relevant aspects of national provision], which took place on October 12. At the roundtable, António Gaspar, a researcher at INESC TEC, had the opportunity to address the impact of disruptive technologies and national competitive pros, as well as INESC TEC competences in terms of disruptive technologies, e.g., quantum technologies, AI, robotics, big data, and lasers.
According to António Gaspar, “the technologies developed by INESC TEC are typically dual-use and may have applications in the Defence and Security sectors; by participating in this event, INESC TEC straightened its position in the fields of protection and security, complementing previous participations in events dedicated to defence”.
Besides the conferences, the event also provided the participants with an exhibition area, which was attended by companies associated with Electronic Safety, Safety of People and Goods, Safety at Work, Road Safety and Prevention, Search and Rescue, Prevention, Protection and Fire Fighting.
