Porto City Council awards Medal of Merit to Pedro Guedes de Oliveira

Over the past decade, the awarding ceremony has been taking place on July 9. This event aims to honour individual personalities or entities that have stood out for their merits or civic achievements. Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, former chairman of INESC TEC, was one of this year’s recipients.

July 9 is an important date: it’s the day that King Pedro IV arrived in the city of Porto in 1832, leading the liberal army. In fact, thanks to the resistance of the people of Porto – which led the liberal troops to victory – the city earned the title of “Invicta”, after the end of the 1833 siege.

This year, the ceremony took place at Casa do Roseiral. Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, awarded 46 medals – 41 to individual personalities (five of which were awarded posthumously), four to institutions and one to a city worker.

Several academia representatives received this medal, together with people from other sectors: culture, journalism, economics, medicine, politics, etc.
