Orlando Frazão, researcher at INESC TEC, was appointed Fellow of the European Optical Society (EOS) for the current year, acknowledging his vast career in applied photonics – namely in fibre-optic sensors.
The award ceremony took place on September 9, in Naples, within the scope of the international conference EOSAM 2024 (European Optical Society Annual Meeting) – and during the event “EOS Fellow and Honorary Member”.
This nomination emphasises Orlando Frazão’s outstanding scientific contributions, which cover the development of fibre-optic sensors, interrogation systems and distributed sensors. In addition, he stands out for his commitment to the scientific community, which includes the training and supervision of PhD students, his role as editor of high-impact journals in the area, and his participation in the organising/scientific committees of international and national conferences, like EOSAM 2022. His dedication also translates into the support provided to SPOF – Portuguese Society for Optics and Photonics – as a member of the board.
The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC and UP-FCUP.
