The VISIGRAPP 2025 – 20th International Joint Conference on Computer Vision, Imaging and Computer Graphics Theory and Applications – took place in Porto, in late February. It brought together more than 380 researchers and professionals interested in keeping up with and discussing theoretical advances and applications in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Human-Computer Interaction, and Information Visualisation – the main themes of the co-located conferences VISAPP, GRAPP, HUCAPP, and IVAPP, respectively. One of the co-chairs of this conference was INESC TEC researcher A. Augusto de Sousa.
Besides organising and moderating several sessions – showing the Institute’s contribution to advancing computer graphics and digital media -, INESC TEC was represented by three researchers.
In addition to A. Augusto Sousa, as chair, researchers António Coelho and Nelson Bilber Rodrigues also played prominent roles. António Coelho organised and moderated the industrial panel held at the conference, and moderated a technical session on “Feature Extraction”; moreover, and together with Nelson Bilber Rodrigues, the researcher presented a poster on “Generative Narrative-Driven Game Mechanics for Procedural Driving Simulators”.
“The current situation, characterised by the influence of AI across numerous research and development fields, was a common aspect discussed at VISIGRAPP 2025, in all four co-located conferences. Interdisciplinary research was a key focus, given the complex nature of today’s challenges, combining human-centred design techniques with computer graphics algorithms, computer vision, and AI. The latter requires models based on large amounts of data, and effective yet intuitive visualisation,” explained A. Augusto Sousa.
VISIGRAPP 2025 addressed current and highly significant topics that have also been the focus of research by several INESC TEC researchers. The work developed collectively allowed, for example, A. Augusto de Sousa to act as co-chair of the conference for the second time, after having held the position of Program Chair for the GRAPP conference for four consecutive years.
The conference featured 58 technical sessions, seven poster sessions, two tutorials and an industrial panel. It brought together experts from all over the world to discuss the latest trends and innovations in these areas – with the INESC TEC team playing a key role in terms of organisation and moderation.
The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FEUP.
