INESC TEC researcher nominated as member of the Consello da Cultura Galega

How can we bring science and culture closer together? The answer may now be reached more quickly – with the appointment of INESC TEC researcher Susana Bayo as a member of the Consello da Cultura Galega, the advisory body of the Autonomous Community of Galicia responsible for promoting knowledge and advising the regional government on cultural matters.

According to Susana Bayo, science and technology should increasingly feature in cultural debate. This appointment could be a unique bridge between Portugal and Galicia, and between INESC TEC and a cultural reflection body. The researcher believes she can use her professional experience to contribute to the cultural development of Galicia in the fields of science and technology.

“These are fundamental elements for understanding and addressing the challenges of contemporary society, from the energy transition to digital transformation. Only through the promotion of interdisciplinary dialogue and the integration of scientific research into cultural projects can we bring science and technology closer to citizens, making them part of the collective cultural identity,” said Susana Bayo.

For the researcher, this is also an opportunity to learn and broaden her knowledge by engaging with people from different fields; it is a recognition that also represents a greater responsibility.

She emphasised the proximity between Galicia and Portugal, both geographically and in terms of shared objectives and a very similar identity. “I will express INESC TEC’s interest in participating actively in the goals of the Consello da Cultura Galega, and I am confident that good opportunities for collaboration will arise for both sides,” emphasised the researcher.

With this appointment, the connection between science, technology, and culture is strengthened, as is the collaborative effort between Portugal and Galicia.
