The city of Porto will host the Meeting on Medical Image Analysis (MMIA). The first edition of this event dedicated to the medical image analysis community will take place at INESC TEC on 8 May, promoting the sharing of scientific advances and recent results in this field, as well as discussion of pressing and current clinical challenges. For now, the challenge has been issued: until 27 March, it is possible to submit scientific abstracts for presentation at the event.
Shaping the future of medical image analysis is the main objective of MMIA, which will bring together the community in this field to present discoveries, discuss new methods and spark collaborations. “With this forum, we aim to address scientific advances and recent results in the field of medical image analysis, which is evolving rapidly,” explained João Pedrosa.
According to the INESC TEC researcher, who is one of the organisers of the meeting alongside Sandro Queirós, a researcher at the Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (2Ai) of the Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (IPCA), the initiative also seeks to foster debate around emerging topics and applications, such as the use of foundation models, multimodal approaches and federated learning.
A call for scientific papers is currently open. Contributions will be accepted in areas like image reconstruction; image classification and object detection; data synthesis and augmentation; image-based diagnosis and clinical decision support; bias, fairness and generalisation in medical image analysis; and explainability and interpretability in medical image analysis, among others. The deadline for abstract submission is 27 March, and further information can be found on the MMIA webpage.
“We believe that medical image analysis will play an increasingly decisive role in the transformation of healthcare. With MMIA, we aim to bring together the scientific community to promote the exchange of ideas, accelerate new collaborations and discuss the challenges that will shape the future of this field,” the researcher concluded.
