INESC TEC strengthens ties with Macau through scientific cooperation agreement

INESC TEC and University of Macau have formalised a cooperation agreement in the fields of education and research to improve collaboration between the two institutions over the next five years.

The joint memorandum of cooperation, signed in Macau by INESC TEC Chairman João Claro, establishes a framework for the development of joint initiatives, including research projects, academic mobility programmes and researcher exchanges.

“This agreement represents an opportunity to build a strong bridge between INESC TEC, the University of Porto and the University of Macau, reinforcing scientific cooperation in areas of major technological and societal relevance. This collaboration can play a highly significant role as a connecting space between institutions, scientific communities and innovation ecosystems,” highlighted João Claro.

The planned areas of collaboration also include the organisation of conferences, seminars and other scientific activities, as well as the submission of joint applications for international funding.

João Claro travelled to Macau as part of the University of Porto delegation, which also signed a memorandum with the Macanese institution. The visit included a tour of the Faculty of Science and Technology and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, where the INESC TEC Chairman was welcomed by Ningyi Dai.

Alongside the signing ceremony, the delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI, a leading research infrastructure internationally recognised for the work in microelectronics and integrated systems.

The agreement has an initial duration of five years; Pui-In Mak signed the memorandum on behalf of the University of Macau.

Established in 1981, the University of Macau is a public research-oriented university and is consistently ranked among the leading universities in Asia.
