An ecosystem of networks, Artificial Intelligence and OnLIFE education: there is a new project in Brazil featuring INESC TEC

How can collaboration between networks improve AI and immersive environments education? And how can this education model address the environmental, technological, and social changes we face today? How does society prepare to live, learn and work in these new realities? The project “Network Ecosystem in the OnLIFE Education Paradigm in the Age of Artificial Intelligences” focuses on addressing these questions, boosting networked research and leveraging training in contexts ecologically interconnected with Generative AI.

This project stems from an emerging domain: education associated with AI and immersive environments, towards promoting the connection between four research and practice networks: International OnLIFE Education Network (RIEOnLIFE), Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN), Connect Network/Open University and Atopos Network/University of São Paulo.

“The development of RIEOnLIFE’s actions, especially those related to the OnLIFE Education Hub in the Age of Hyperintelligences – in liaison with actions developed by iLRN, Connect Network and Atopos -, led to a research challenge: how can the connection between networks promote training in contexts ecologically connected with Generative AI?”, said Eliane Schlemmer, researcher at INESC TEC.

The solution could be the creation of an ecosystem of networks to address the changes that are impacting education and that require an approach that integrates the physical and digital dimensions (OnLIFE education) of the learning process – improving training in contexts ecologically connected with Generative AI. This way, the project will use the Cartographic Method of Intervention-Research rECOnnective – Reticular, Ecological, and Connective – to study and leverage this ecosystem.

“This method refers to network research, based on the connectivity between humans and non-humans who co-create date, in the course of the research activities – in contexts characterised by interventions,” she stated. This study is expected to generate “a cartography on how each network operates with generative AI and the actions they develop; the co-creation, in a network, of a formative proposal in contexts ecologically connected with Generative AI; the cartography of how the network ecosystem will be designed; and the socialisation of research in scientific events and publications”, summarised Eliane Schlemmer.

The “Network Ecosystem in the OnLIFE Education Paradigm in the Age of Artificial Intelligences” project was approved under the Programa Conhecimento Brasil, which aims to support network projects with Brazilian researchers in other countries.
