Recognised as the most important European meeting point in robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), the European Robotics Forum took place in Stuttgart at the end of March. INESC TEC was present at the event, showcasing projects and demonstrating technologies at its own exhibition stand and presenting a scientific paper.
Under the theme “Empowering Synergies Between Robotics and AI for a Stronger Europe,” the 16th edition of the European Robotics Forum took place in Germany over three days. INESC TEC attended with an exhibition space that allowed it to present flagship projects such as MomaFlex, Vine&Wines, SeaGuard, Drivolution, Produtech R3, and Hi_reV, as well as to demonstrate solutions developed within the institution.
Fulfilling one of the event’s goals – to provide a platform for showcasing innovative technologies – INESC TEC presented the Mobile Manipulator (MoMa) “Friday,” a robot designed to operate in complex industrial environments; an augmented reality application for intuitive robot programming, and a model of the MARES AUV submarine, equipped with a camera and a bottom-facing sonar.
Active since 2007, the MARES AUV was designed for operations in coastal waters up to 100 meters deep and is known for its high modularity and adaptability. These features allow, for example, the integration of additional sensors, providing the flexibility required for a wide range of applications.
In addition to this representation, João Pedro Souza, a researcher at the institution, also presented the paper entitled “Friday: The Versatile Mobile Manipulator,” co-authored with Artur Cordeiro, Pedro Dias, and Luís Rocha. During the event, João Pedro Souza delivered a pitch about the solution described in the paper, including potential real-world industrial applications.

INESC TEC’s robotics area was also represented at the European Robotics Forum by researchers Alfredo Martins, André Silva, Bruno Ferreira, Carlos Almeida, Filipe Neves dos Santos, João Graça Martins, Manuel Silva, and Nuno Cruz. The first edition of the European Robotics Forum was held in 2010, and the event has since welcomed over 10,700 participants. In addition to discussing technological advancements, the forum aims to foster idea exchange, networking, and collaboration between academia, industry, and society.
