INESC TEC advances the future of communications at international conference

A stand to showcase innovative projects, the presentation of two papers and the organisation of a workshop: these translate into INESC TEC participation in the latest edition of EuCNC & 6G Summit, which took place in Antwerp (Belgium).

Luís Pessoa, Filipe Borges Teixeira and Manuel Ricardo, INESC TEC researchers, represented the Institute at this important event in the area of Communications and 6G; the researchers presented the CONVERGE, TERRAMETA and SuperIOT projects at the stand – the first two coordinated by INESC TEC.

Following a visit to Rice University (USA), the researcher Luís Pessoa was involved in the organisation of the workshop “Strengthening EU-US Cooperation in Experimental Infrastructures Towards 6G”, focusing on improving relations between Europe and the United States of America in the area of research infrastructures – with representatives of the 6G-SNS (Europe) and the National Science Foundation (E.U.A.). During the workshop, INESC TEC presented the European project CONVERGE, which aims to develop tools for the creation of a new research area within the scope of 6G. 6G-SNS, also known as SNS-JU, is a cooperation initiative that brings together several entities for the development of 6G communications, which integrates INESC TEC as coordinator of the TERRAMETA project.

At the same event, Luís Pessoa and Filipe Borges Teixeira presented two scientific papers, co-authored by other INESC TEC researchers: CONVERGE: A Vision-Radio Research Infrastructure Towards 6G and Beyond and A Deep Learning Approach in RIS-based Indoor Localization. The first focuses on the development of the tools and architecture for the future system of the next generation of communications. The second relates to the TERRAMETA project, and the feasibility of high-speed wireless networks supported by reconfigurable smart surfaces.

“EUCNC is one of the most important conferences in the field of communications, with an additional focus on 6G communications and the European projects that are at the forefront of the development of this new technology. Our participation in this conference – stand, workshop and two papers – favoured great networking moments with national and international partners, as well as new opportunities for collaboration on new project proposals”, said Luís Pessoa and Filipe Borges Teixeira.

“It is, without a doubt, something we wish to repeat, since our presence brings significant added value”, they concluded.
