INESC TEC attended meeting with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission

After the invitation by the Confederação Empresarial de Portugal (CIP), INESC TEC took part in a high-level, closed-door meeting held in Lisbon with Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission. The exclusive meeting was attended only by presidents and CEOs of Portuguese associations and companies, with INESC TEC represented by João Claro, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

This event aimed to promote a direct exchange between the European Commission and the Portuguese business sector regarding “the main challenges affecting the competitiveness of the European economy, at a time when companies expect concrete results and effective measures to strengthen investment and productivity,” as stated on CIP’s website.

“Our participation in this meeting was an opportunity to reinforce the voice of science and technology in the European debate on competitiveness. INESC TEC is deeply committed to the European agenda for innovation and industrial competitiveness, fully endorsing EARTO’s message: ‘No EU Tech, No EU Competitiveness.’ Research and Technology Organisations play a decisive role in de-risking innovation, bridging levels, actors and assets, and addressing strategic challenges. They are a vital connection in transforming knowledge into economic and social impact, strengthening Europe’s technological and industrial capacity,” emphasised João Claro.

Representatives from the pharmaceutical, metallurgical, and textile sectors also took part in the forum. INESC TEC and INEGI were the only research centres invited to attend this meeting.
