INESC TEC is the latest member of the network of Offices for the Promotion of Industrial Property (GAPI)

The Offices for the Promotion of Industrial Property (GAPI) welcomed a new member: INESC TEC. The protocol between the institution and the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) was signed in July 2024.

The GAPI network aims to promote and disseminate the intellectual property system and to raise awareness among academia and business ecosystems, focusing on the importance of protecting their inventions, brands and designs.

“The integration of INESC TEC into the GAPI network is something that honours the Institute and formalises the promotion and appreciation of Industrial Property, and the long cooperation with other GAPIs located in various parts of the country. We perceive this network as a forum for sharing good practices and building a strong IP ecosystem capable of promoting the prosperity of society”, explained Daniel Vasconcelos, head of INESC TEC’s Technology Licensing Office.

The protocol enables different types of activities, which may include: the creation, at INESC TEC, of a specialised support office – Office for the Promotion of Industrial Property (GAPI); the development of actions to promote and disseminate industrial property rights, the industrial property system and the mechanisms to support its promotion, among others.

“INESC TEC actively seeks to integrate, contribute and benefit from all collective initiatives with a strategic impact on realising the potential of knowledge generation in our country. It is an honour to be able to strengthen the natural and cooperative relationship that we have been developing with INPI and multiple entities part of the GAPI network”, reinforced João Claro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of INESC TEC.

INESC TEC has a long-standing commitment to valuing the role of intellectual property in the transformation and internationalisation of the Portuguese economy, and in tech-based innovation and entrepreneurship.
