INESC TEC participated in the 19th edition of the Summer School – FCUP

Several INESC TEC researchers participated in the 19th edition of the Physics Summer School of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). Through project mentoring and guided visits to the laboratories, the institution’s researchers showed the 61 students who participated in this activity the differentiating role that INESC TEC plays in the interface between academia, science and technology.

The students (from the 10th to the 12th grades) who participated in yet another edition (August 25-30) of the Summer School – organised by FCUP’s Physics and Astronomy Department, supported by INESC TEC through a hub dedicated to applied photonics – attended different courses and lectures; at the end, they developed a scientific project under the supervision of young researchers.

Concerning INESC TEC researchers, the areas addressed with the students focused on plasma spectroscopy, optical sensing with surface waves, and optical tweezers.

The Physics Summer School is one of the most successful initiatives of the University of Porto in terms of scientific dissemination, providing an in-depth experience about the work of Physicists or Physics Engineers to high school students.

The 2024 edition featured the following INESC TEC researchers: Joana Teixeira, Miguel Almeida, Tomás Lopes in project mentoring and laboratory visits; Tiago Ferreira and Cláudio Floridia in laboratory visits, and Nuno Silva in the organisation.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FCUP.
