On January 29, INESC TEC presented the last works developed under the “Industry 4.0 Cyber-Physical Production Systems” and the “Extended Collaborative Platform for the Footwear Industry“. Alongside the partners of the FAMEST project, the Institute demonstrated the potential of integrating i4.0 technologies in the operations and monitoring of footwear production.
The main focus was the presentation of the outcomes of Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) and Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS) participation in the FAMEST project – Footwear, Advanced Materials, Equipment’s and Software Technologies, whose final meeting took place on January 29, at the Footwear Technology Centre of Portugal (CTCP). FAMEST brought together a consortium of 23 companies in the sector and nine research centres, aimed at mobilising and advancing the Portuguese footwear cluster through actions and demonstrations of i4.0 technological solutions and advanced materials.
INESC TEC was part of this project through the CESE and CRIIS research teams. Researchers Rui Diogo Rebelo, César Toscano, Correia Alves, Paulo Marques, Elder Hernández, Bruno Cunha and Daniela Silva supported CESE, in charge of the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) architectures and platform, simulation, framework and collaborative platforms. Researchers António Paulo Moreira and Héber Sobreira represented CRIIS, in charge of providing mobile robotics support.
It is important to point out that INESC TEC developed an Industrial IoT platform for the integration of i4.0-ready equipment – oven and CNC – and systems – ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) -, as well as the simulation of a production line (Digital Twin). This integration process was based on the Industrial IoT architecture proposed by INESC TEC, and the main goal was to obtain and disseminate relevant data and information to support decision-making.
Regarding the logistics systems and collaborative platforms, an AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) designed for the footwear and collaborative platforms sector (management of collaborative activities, Brand-to-Retailer, Digital Marketing) was presented – with INESC TEC also contributing to its development.
The closing session of the project, expected to last until October 2020, was quite successful, with entrepreneurs in the sector showing significant interest in the results. The next stage of the project includes the installation of some prototypes in an industrial environment. The proofs of concept will encourage the dissemination of the potential of i4.0 technological solutions among companies in the footwear cluster, thus supporting them and increasing their competitiveness. The following co-developers carried out the aforementioned activities: INESC TEC, CTCP, FLOWMAT, CEI, OFICINAWARE, KSInformática, JEFAR and KYAIA.
The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UP-FEUP.
