INESC TEC presents a system for manoeuvring autonomous robots and hosts a presentation of industrial solutions

IiLab hosted a workshop on the latest developments within the scope of the PRR’s Produtech R3 Agenda. INESC TEC presented a system to manoeuvre robots remotely and accurately.

INESC TEC hosted the presentation of the latest results of the Navigator demonstrator, part of the “Autonomous forklifts, with remote control, for pallet loading and unloading processes”, of the PRR’s Produtech R3 Agenda; this project seeks to empower the production technologies sector towards transforming and qualifying the industry.

Throughout the day, the workshop that brought together more than 30 participants, allowed the institutions responsible for the demonstrator – CCG, INESC TEC, FlowBotic, Infinite Foundry, Navigator and NOS – to present their work and to carry out demonstrations of some prototypes.

“Concerning INESC TEC, we presented a remote-control system for autonomous mobile robots – using virtual reality and communication technologies supported by the 5G network. The system allows operators to manoeuvre robots remotely with high precision, immersion and low latency “, stated Manuel Couto, INESC TEC researcher

Manuel Silva, also a researcher at INESC TEC, added that the initiative allowed him to “cover all the work in progress”. And there was a lot to deal with: from the simulation of the automated truck loading system at Navigator (Setúbal) to the deployment of a digital twin to detect the best solutions, while exploring the features of the 5G network that will support AMR teleoperation, and the AMR forklift design and pallet detection systems for automating AMR tasks and AMR teleoperation using Augmented Reality.

“This event was a huge success, with highly technical discussions and the exchange of ideas regarding the work in progress – and the next steps moving forward”, he said.

The PRODUTECH R3 Innovation Pact presents itself as a strategic and integrated initiative to “foster a structuring change in the Production Technologies Sector (FTP)”. The project welcomes 108 companies and entities from the main sectors of the industry and the scientific and technological system.

INESC TEC has been part of the consortium since January 2022, being responsible for the work package related to the development of solutions for internal logistics in the industry. The project foresees the collaborative development of 85 new innovative products and services and their demonstration in more than 52 pilots

The partners will hold a new event to follow the progress of the project in September – this time in Guimarães, at the University of Minho.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with INESC TEC.
