INESC TEC researcher acknowledged at U.Porto’s Annual Meeting of Young Research

Rita Faria, INESC TEC researcher, received the award for best oral presentation in the field of Physics at the Annual Meeting of Young Research – IJUP 2024. The work “Long-Period Fiber Gratings and Fabry-Perot Interferometers for Relative Humidity Fiber Sensing in a Marine Environment” presents advances in the development of fibre optics sensors to monitor temperatures, which will later be implemented in floating concrete structures to support offshore wind turbines.

Every year, IJUP provides an opportunity for UP students to present and discuss the results of the studies in which they participated, as part of research initiation projects. This years’ event took place at the Faculty of Economics between May 8 and 10. The award ceremony took place on June 27, at the Great Hall of the Rectory Building of the University of Porto

This work was carried out at INESC TEC, within the scope of the PRR Alliance for Energy Transition project, under the supervision of Luís Coelho, José Manuel Almeida e João Mendes, INESC TEC researchers.

In addition to Rita Faria, IJUP featured five oral presentations in the field of Physics by young INESC TEC researchers: Xavier Lopes, under the scientific guidance led by João Mendes and Bernardo Carneiro, and Francisco Rocha, under the scientific guidance of Luís Coelho, Rafael Cavaco, and Nuno Silva (also an INESC TEC researcher). Three of these studies presented the latest findings from the European INNOAQUA project, which focuses on developing and implementing optical monitoring systems to optimise large-scale algae production processes.

The awards ceremony for the winning researchers will take place on 27 June 2024 at 3pm in the Great Hall of the Rectory of the University of Porto.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC, UP-FCUP and UP-FEUP.
