INESC TEC researchers strengthened the partnership with CENTRA international network

INESC TEC reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to international research collaboration by participating in the CENTRA 2025 event, a global initiative that brings together research centres, institutes, and laboratories from across the world to drive the development of transnational cyberinfrastructures. This year’s edition focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), exploring application in linguistics, cognitive psychology and advanced management of cyberinfrastructures.

INESC TEC, represented by several researchers dedicated to high-assurance software, supercomputing, and storage systems, took part in the event with four key presentations, showcasing the role in innovation and international cooperation.

Cláudia Brito presented advances from a project on efficient and secure data management for HPC and cloud computing, while Ricardo Macedo introduced the PASM project – which, in collaboration with Florida International University (U.S.A.) and AIST (Japan), aims to improve sustainability in data centres.

Ricardo Macedo also shared preliminary results on improving energy efficiency in the training of AI models, promoting discussions with researchers from the U.S.A., Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand, who showed interest in participating or providing use cases for this new solution.

The researcher Rui Oliveira highlighted the importance of impact-based collaborative research, stressing the need for strategic planning, adequate funding and international cooperation to maximise scientific results.

In addition to debates on the advancement of emerging technologies, CENTRA 2025 allowed the creation of new partnerships and strengthened collaborations already established. INESC TEC highlighted the long-standing cooperation with AIST in Japan, which has lasted for seven years and has generated significant results in the area of supercomputing and storage systems. In addition, the two-year partnership with Florida International University continues to have a positive impact and is driving new research endeavours.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and U.Minho.
