INESC TEC welcomed Brazil’s Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Healthcare

On July 5, representatives of Brazil’s Laboratory for Technological Innovation in Healthcare (LAIS) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and the Advanced Technological Innovation Centre (NAVI/IFRN) visited INESC TEC, in order to obtain more knowledge of the R&I work developed by the Institute in the health-related fields.

This visit, organised to establish and improve scientific relations between Europe and Brazil, began with a presentation of INESC TEC and INESC P&D Brasil, followed by the presentation of TEC4Health – a multidisciplinary initiative focused on health challenges, and on INESC TEC’s R&D and innovation competencies in Health.

After the presentation of the LAIS and NAVI/IFRN delegation, the participants had the chance to identify and discuss potential opportunities and collaboration endeavours between the entities involved. This discussion was followed by a visit to INESC TEC’s Neuroengineering and Advanced Human Sensing Laboratory, which carries out high-level interdisciplinary research and development in the areas of engineering and computing applied to clinical and fundamental neuroscience.

“These networking opportunities are crucial; not only because LAIS is a reference laboratory in R&D in the area of health technology, but also because Brazil is a country with which INESC TEC fosters a tradition of cooperation in health-related fields”, said Carlos Ferreira, Business Developer of TEC4HEALTH.

The visit was attended by INESC TEC’s Vladimiro Miranda, Associate Director of the Institute and Chairman of INESC P&D Brasil; Miguel Coimbra, Coordinator of TEC4Health; João Paulo Cunha and Francesco Renna, from the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER); Hélder Oliveira, from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM); Hugo Paredes, from the Centre Human-Centered Computing and Information Science (HUMANISE), and Andreia Passos and Sheila Habib, from the International Relations Service (SRI).
