The sixth issue of INESC TEC Science and Society magazine is already available, dedicated to the theme “Empowering the Blue Economy through innovation and technology”. This edition includes 18 articles, featuring more than 40 authors, focusing on four major themes: Sensing the Oceans, Research and Innovation Infrastructures, Marine Resources, and Sea Technology.
According to Artur Pimenta Alves, coordinator of the magazine, the topic “assumes the utmost importance at a time of great attention devoted to climate change”.
Ana Paula Lima, Carlos Pinho, and Eduardo Silva, members of the editorial board, have the same opinion; and, besides emphasising the relevance of the oceans and their resources, in terms of economic activities and supporting life on our planet, they took the opportunity to highlight that “INESC TEC has been involved in more than 100 development projects for the Blue Economy sectors, accounting for more than €16M”, as well as the path paved with several “national and international industrial partners, associations, academic institutions, and other R&D centres”.
The structure of the new issue is different from previous editions, but the objective remains unchanged: to disseminate science to society and contribute to the global digital transformation, in order to reach a wider audience and contribute to a more informed society, set to address the most pressing challenges.
The sixth issue of the magazine – as well as the previous editions – is available online, in English – and soon, in Portuguese. The next edition of Science & Society will focus on “Innovation Policies”.
