Project managers at INESC TEC: Lino Oliveira, André Sá and Filipe Neves dos Santos

What is the connection between Geodouro and INESC TEC?

Geodouro has been working with INESC TEC for several years, focusing on our main areas: territorial engineering and agriculture; we seek to develop differentiating and innovative projects and solutions. INESC TEC’s research ability has been very important to differentiate our solutions from others existing in the market, making it possible to provide tailor-made technological solutions to our clients, with INESC TEC’s acknowledged confidence and competence; it also allows us to establish technically skilled teams that seek to explore medium and large technological projects. More recently, we developed two R&DT projects in co-promotion with INESC TEC: INFRAVINI and InOlive.

What are the main results of this collaboration?

In addition to integrating consortia to participate in national and international public calls for the development of technological solutions, we’ve carried out two R&DT projects in co-promotion; INESC TEC acts as co-promoter and partner, responsible for scientific research and support in terms of technological development of solutions.

Concerning the INFRAVINI project (2019 – 2021), we focused on the development of a Thematic Spatial Data Infrastructure, with a prototype to manage the Impact of Climate Change on Vineyards part of the Douro Wine Region. The solution provides medium and long-term climate forecast scenarios, integrating a network of sensors and weather stations to provide access to real-time readings of said network and a set of climate indicators – with very important historical information for agriculture and viticulture. You can find more information about this project here: https://infravini.pt.

The InOlive project (2021 – 2023) aimed to develop a solution for intelligent monitoring of pest and disease prevention in olive groves. The system’s main components feature an intelligent robotic trap, capable of sending photographs of the traps to the central system and climate-related data through the sensors integrated into the trap; a mobile application for monitoring traditional traps; a pest identification and counting service developed using Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning models; and a web system capable of centralising and aggregating all this data and services, providing crucial information for olive growers, so they can anticipate decisions on plant health control in their crops. You can find more information about this project here: http://inolive.pt.

How do you rate your experience with INESC TEC?

Quite good! Our main intermediary at INESC TEC has been Lino Oliveira, but we also collaborated with André Sá and Filipe Santos, and the members of their teams. In addition to the technical skills and the constant addition of innovative technologies, methodologies, and international norms/standards by INESC TEC teams, we’d like to highlight the personal aspect and their flexibility and ability to adapt and adjust throughout the execution of the projects. We appreciate these aspects, which translate into added value, towards achieving success throughout the projects’ development.

What do you value the most in this collaboration?

INESC TEC’s excellence and prime technological knowledge, crucial to differentiate the projects and solutions that we’ve developed together. We’d also like to emphasise the teamwork ability and the support provided in project management; this support is often vital, namely concerning projects with many partners and many team members.

What can we expect from Geodouro in the upcoming years?

Geodouro is a company located in Lamego, dedicated to providing products and services to the market since 2000, focusing on two main areas: territory engineering and agriculture. Since 2013, we’ve started to develop technological solutions, focusing on our Agricultural Management Software SIGP (Integrated Property Management System) – available here. Our goal is keep developing solutions to meet the needs of the market, according to our areas of work, aiming to enable our solutions with innovative and differentiating technology; and we rely on INESC TEC support to do so.
