On June 2023, a group of 20 members of the INESC TEC community participated in the first edition of the Well-Being Games, which took place in Lisbon. The participants entered the padel, volleyball and “Games Without Borders” competitions.
The Well-Being Games aim to promote health and well-being in national companies, through a set of games aimed at their employees. More specifically, this initiative promoted activities in three different areas: sports, e.g., football, basketball, running, hiking, volleyball and padel; wellness – yoga and mindfulness masterclasses and workshops; and “Games Without Borders”, with less conventional and more engaging games to foster team cooperation. The main goal is to promote teamwork, cooperation, and the feeling of overcoming through sports.
“Following the work we’ve been developing within the scope of the Technical Commission for Social Responsibility (CTRS), we believe that this would be an excellent opportunity to simultaneously strengthen well-being and the relationship between co-workers. These initiatives, designed to promote interpersonal relationships, foster team spirit and support social causes, align with INESC TEC’s Social Responsibility strategy”, said Luís Seca, member of the Executive Board and head of the CTRS within the Board of Directors.
The participation was ensured by two padel teams, with Pedro Benedicto, researcher at the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), Ana Cristina Simões, Henrique Piqueiro and Romão Santos, researchers at the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE).
The volleyball team featured Beatriz Cepa, Diogo Ribeiro, Luís Meruje, Mariana Miranda, Pedro Moreira and Rui Monteiro, researchers at the High-assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab).
The “Games Without Borders” team featured Daniela Sá, Elsa Carvalho, Francisco Azevedo, Joana Coelho, Sofia Maciel and Pedro Esteves, from the Communication Service (SCOM), Ana Rita Moutinho and Susana Marques, from HASLab, Ahmed Adel Fares, from the Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Laboratory (LIAAD), and Ana Carolina Chaves, from CESE.
This event was also dedicated to social causes, contributing to the Romã Azul association via a campaign donation, with a percentage of the participants’ fees also allocated to this association.
