INESC TEC took part in the first edition of Dia Empresarial, an initiative promoted by FOCA – Focus On Critical Actions, within the framework of the Porto Climate Pact, bringing together companies and institutions committed to sustainability in actions with positive environmental and social impact.
The initiative took place at Praia do Carneiro (Porto); the goal was to mobilise teams from different organisations for a joint intervention in the local area through a beach clean-up, reinforcing the role of companies and institutions in collectively addressing climate challenges. The initiative was particularly significant as it took place during the same week as Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April, helping to raise awareness of ecosystem protection and the need to preserve urban and coastal spaces.
Through the Technical Committee for Social Responsibility (CTRS), four INESC TEC staff members took part in the initiative, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to sustainability, active citizenship and the promotion of responsible practices within the community. By participating in this action, INESC TEC also helped raise awareness among teams about the importance of protecting urban and coastal environments.
Founded in 2018, FOCA is a youth-led environmental organisation focused on three main areas: awareness-raising, field activities, and support for research and development. Their initiatives include beach, river and forest clean-ups, reforestation activities and circular economy projects.
The action meets the goals of the Porto Climate Pact, promoted by Porto City Council, which aims to mobilise citizens and organisations to accelerate the climate transition and contribute to the city’s carbon neutrality by 2030.
