INESC TEC receives Scientia Mare 2020 Award

PwC – PricewaterhouseCoopers awarded INESC TEC with the Scientia Mare 2020 Award, during the Excellens Mare webinar, which took place on July 25, in Viana do Castelo.

The Scientia Mare Award is one of the seven accolades included in the Excellens Mare 2020 Awards, which aim to acknowledge the excellence and value of those who produce significant advances in sea knowledge or who promote blue innovation.

More specifically, this award aims to highlight distinction and relevance in sea activities, which are fundamental for the development of the sea economy in Portugal and in the world. According to PwC, INESC TEC “has been investing in sea opportunities, in a relevant way, being currently part of 18 international projects that represent around 60 million euros of investment in R&D”.

In order to recognise the importance of those who seek to add value to the sea and rivers, the Excellens Mare webinar was attended by the Excellens Mare jury, José Maria Costa, President of the City Council,  as well as leaders in the blue economy from around the world, who shared their motivating experiences and inspiring visions of the future.

João Claro, CEO of INESC TEC, participated in this initiative, and pointed that at INESC TEC “the sea is the field where we actually observe the results and the achievements after many years of dedicated and tireless effort, by an exceptionally talented team”. “This award is for that team, and it is in their name that we are very happy and very proud to receive this award”, he added.

It’s important to mention that the Excellens Mare Awards are presented annually, as a result of the selection made by the members of the jury, after listening to experts, associations and relevant actors associated with the sea.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with UP-FEUP.
