INESC TEC researcher acknowledged for his work on supply chain management

Emerald Publishing and EMFD Global acknowledged the work developed by Ricardo Zimmermann, a researcher at the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE), in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management category. The research carried out by the author, entitled “Innovation and supply chain management: strategies, capabilities, and the effect of fit on business performance”, was highly commended in the 2020 edition of the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards.

Since Emerald Publishing is a globally recognised publisher, particularly due to the promotion of research work aimed at social change, this distinction gains particular relevance. According to Ricardo Zimmermann, “receiving this prestigious distinction, in addition to being a great honour due to its relevance and international recognition, serves as an incentive and motivation for the development of research at the level of the best international institutions”.

The work developed by the researcher in the scope of his PhD in Engineering and Industrial Management from the University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professors Luís Miguel Ferreira and António Carrizo Moreira, from the same institution, aimed to study how supply chain management strategies affect the relation between innovation capability and the companies’ business performance. Thanks to the original approach to the theme, the thesis led to articles published in leading journals in the field, such as Supply Chain Management: An International Journal and the International Journal of Logistics Management.

Ricardo first came into contact with INESC TEC while defending his thesis, with the senior EESC researcher Ana Barros as one of the members of the jury. The author has been working at INESC TEC since September 2019, developing research in the field of digital transformation in supply chains, thus continuing the work started during his PhD.
