INESC TEC participated in the Engineering Week 2022 (Semana Profissão: Engenheiro 2022, SPE), one of the initiatives promoted by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) during its open week, which took place between March 30 and April 1. The objective of this programme was to clear the doubts of students who wish to follow an academic path in engineering and to generate buzz among those who remain undecided.
Similarly to FEUP, INESC TEC opened its doors to dozens of high school students, so they could get to know the engineering areas and respective different specialties, while learning a little more about the daily lives of professionals and interacting directly with them, thus experiencing some of the technologies developed by INESC TEC members.
The participants were able to visit two INESC TEC laboratories, both dedicated to Robotics. Hence, they learned more about the role of Robotics in industry, but also about the role it plays in educational, health, and pharmaceutical sectors. Researchers Cláudia Rocha, Sandro Magalhães and Ricardo Sousa promoted a visit to the facilities of the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS) and presented a series of projects developed by CRIIS. They had the support of the grant holders João Martins, Maria Lopes and David Raposo, and also from students from the FEUP’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Nuno Cruz and Carlos Gonçalves, coordinator and researcher of the Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS), respectively, addressed the topics of Robotics and sustainable sea exploration, through a demonstration that presented and explored new technologies in the field of autonomous marine Robotics, their goals and applications.
The SPE 2022 included a programme with more than 60 activities for high school students, teachers, and psychologists, bringing together FEUP professors, researchers, and students, who were able to provide insight into the world of Engineering.
