Conferences, workshops, B2B meetings and technology exhibitions were the highlights of this year’s edition of AED Days, an hybrid event in which INESC TEC participated once again, between May 24 and 27.
The AED Days 2022 was organised by the AED Cluster Portugal (Portuguese Cluster for the Aeronautics, Space and Defence Industries), with INESC TEC as one of its members, and welcomed António Costa e Silva, Minister of Economy and the Sea; Pedro Nuno Santos, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing; Marco Capitão Ferreira, Secretary of State for National Defence; and Maria da Graça Carvalho, Member of the European Parliament.
Portugal Space, Airbus, Embraer, Deimos Engenharia, CNCs, Portuguese Navy, Tekever, Air Force, and other entities also attended the event, a space open to debate on the main challenges for the Aeronautics, Space and Defence sectors.
At this event, INESC TEC presented the technologies stemming from the following projects: GRIFO – an autonomous aerial vehicle developed to support search and rescue, surveillance or monitoring; GROW – long-range wireless underwater communications and broadband; and FASTEN – Flexible and Autonomous Manufacturing Systems for Custom-Designed Products.
António Gaspar, coordinator of the TEC4Partnerhips initiative of INESC TEC and vice-president of the Board of Directors of AED Cluster Portugal, was the moderator of the workshop “Aerial firefighting: finding new ways to stop wildfires”. He believes that the participation of INESC TEC in this event is very important, and an opportunity to present the R&D results of the Institute relevant to Aeronautics, Space and Defence, while establishing and strengthening partnerships in these sectors.
In addition to António Gaspar, INESC TEC was represented, on the virtual stand, by André Dias, from the Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS); Hélder Fontes, from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM); and César Toscano, from the Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE). Diogo Machado (CRAS) was also present at the event’s venue to support the TURTLE III demonstration.
The AED Cluster Portugal (AEDCP) was created in 2016 because of the merger of DANOTEC, PEMAS and PROESPAÇO associations. As a private non-profit association, it integrates more than 100 members – companies and national institutions – and is recognised as a Competitiveness Cluster by IAPMEI.
