The initiative “Dias da Física” took place on March 29 and 30, and it focused on presenting scientific activities developed in the Physics domain. The event targeted first and master’s degree students attending Physics and Engineering Physics courses, in order to present different career opportunities, inside and outside their academic path.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) welcomed the participants and promoted lectures, roundtables and an exhibition space featuring scientific institutions that work closely with the Department. The Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) represented INESC TEC at the event, with master’s and PhD students, researchers, and former researchers, promoting visits to the laboratories.
According to CAP coordinators, “this was a great opportunity to disseminate CAP and INESC TEC activities – which will hopefully attract potential talents in terms of research”.
On March 30, Nuno Silva led the presentation “Optics and Photonics: a toolbox”. Catarina Monteiro and João Pedro Carvalho joined a round table dedicated to master’s and PhD students – within the scope of the Doctoral Programme in Engineering Physics and the Master in Engineering Physics, respectively. Rita Ribeiro, former CAP researcher representing INESC TEC, talked about her academic and research path, as well as her current work at the company 4dCell, in Paris.
Moreover, INESC TEC and the Institute of Physics for Advanced Materials, Nanotechnology and Photonics (IFIMUP) opened the doors of their laboratories to organise visit and demonstrations, mobilising most students and researchers.
The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC.
