From March 19 to 21, INESC TEC welcomed more than 110 high school students from several regions of the country, boosting their curiosity about the daily life of engineers. Within the scope of the Semana da Profissão: Engenharia (SPE), organised by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), the participants explored the power and energy, industrial robotics, and maritime robotics domains.
The SPE aims to guide students in their higher education path through open days on the FEUP campus. INESC TEC contributed to this initiative by organising several activities at the institution’s laboratories.
At the Laboratory of Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles, students got lost in the world of “energy efficiency and electric vehicles”, unravelling the mysteries of technological innovation aimed at managing energy resources in a sustainable way. Meanwhile, in the institution’s Laboratory of Robotics and IoT for Smart Precision Agriculture and Forestry, students marvelled at the connection between research and practical application, exploring solutions ranging from industry to agroforestry. From electronics to AI, they witnessed a world where creativity meets technology, getting their “hands dirty” with robotic platforms under the guidance of INESC TEC researchers. Among the demonstrations, there was the unexpected presence of a quadruped robot, showing cutting-edge advances in robotic technology.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. INESC TEC Laboratory of Robotics and Autonomous Systems explored the “sustainable presence at sea”, through a captivating view of maritime exploration and allowing students to take charge of underwater robots.
Amid so many activities, INESC TEC was a hub for learning and discovery. SPE proved to be not only an event, but an immersive experience that brought students and teachers together on a journey through science.
