In April 2015, in a room on the third floor of INESC TEC’s headquarters, LTPLabs was born – a spinoff by INESC TEC, founded by three researchers from the Institute: Bernardo Almada-Lobo, Pedro Amorim Lopes, and Luís Guimarães. From the outset, the goal was quite clear: to apply scientific knowledge and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to real-world business management challenges.
Ten years have passed; and LTPLabs has more than 100 clients, employing over 100 people, and continuing to grow at a rate of 30% to 40% annually. The company has become a national and international benchmark in the use of advanced analytical models to support decision-making in areas like supply chain, production planning, pricing, and revenue management.
According to João Claro, Chairman of INESC TEC, “LTPLabs’ 10-year journey shows how it is possible to transform scientific knowledge into a company with economic impact, international presence, and a culture of excellence. It is a source of pride for INESC TEC to have played a part in this story, and an inspiration for what Portugal and Europe should strive for: to create the conditions for more deep tech startups to grow and compete globally. To the founders and the team, we express our recognition and wish that the next 10 years are even more ambitious.”
One of the events to celebrate the 10th anniversary took place at the Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões on May 9: LTPLabs, 10 years of shaping decisions with AI. The event brought together employees, clients, partners, and representatives from the scientific and technological ecosystem. It served as a moment to reflect not only on the company’s journey, but also on the future of AI applied to management and value creation within organisations.
LTPLabs has stood out in both national and international markets by using AI not as an end, but as a means to transform data into real impact. In the past two years, it has also incorporated Generative AI as another tool in the portfolio – even before the “media buzz” around tools like ChatGPT.
The INESC TEC spinoff now exports its analytical models and algorithms to more than 30 countries, supporting the business development of multinationals in the consumer goods, retail, services, and manufacturing sectors.
With a journey marked by innovation and impact, LTPLabs celebrates a decade of success and is preparing to continue shaping decisions with AI in the years to come. Congratulations, LTPLabs!
