“The CTM coordinators would like to nominate Luís Pessoa, Américo Pereira, João R. Pinto, Hélder Fontes and Paula Viana for ‘The Incredibles’, since they were responsible for organising the ninth edition of Open Day CTM, which took place May 4. After a break in 2020, CTM decided to organise another Open Day – this time, as an online event. The initiative went quite well, with a high number of participants and an innovative format, favouring a reflection on 6G and Edge Intelligence. The internal and external presentations allowed CTM to present some of the lines of research associated with 6G and Edge Intelligence, and to know more about the work developed by international groups. The excellence in the organisation of the event was crucial to reinforce INESC TEC’s positive image among guests and participants, motivating them for future collaborations”. *

Given the current context, what were the main challenges for the team in organising the event?

The main challenge was the difficulties in gathering all the information in a timely manner, namely the information required to structure the event’s agenda – in particular, data about each of the presentations. The fact that the organising team was working from home, due to the current context, was a challenging aspect, as well as the management of the entire event via video-calls – something to which we’ve grown accustomed.

How did you overcome these challenges?

Thanks to thorough planning and close monitoring of the various stakeholders involved. More specifically, the organising team was specially selected to ensure the close liaison with the different stakeholders, which allowed us to prepare the event more effectively.

What is the importance of this type of initiative for the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia?

This type of initiative is crucial to improve the visibility of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia abroad; in this particular event, we aimed to reinforce the Centre’s international position, by inviting foreign stakeholders.

How do you comment on this nomination?

We’re very happy for this nomination, since it is a formal acknowledgement of the great collective effort dedicated to organising the event, as well as of the success of the event itself.
