Ângela Ferreira, the deputy minister for Cultural Heritage, visited INESC TEC’s MASSIVE laboratory, the most advanced virtual reality laboratory in the Iberian Peninsula, at the campus of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).

The visit included the demonstrations of ongoing projects, namely in the area of virtualisation of historical sites and the digitisation of knowledge and traditions of the Douro Region, such as wine harvesting and pressing. Among the projects presented, we highlight DOUROTOUR – Tourism and Technological Innovation in the Douro region, and PromoTurVR – Promoting Tourism Destinations with Multisensory Immersive Media. The demonstrations were carried out by Maximino Bessa, researcher at INESC TEC and head of the laboratory, together with the rest of the MASSIVE team.

The visit was part of a tour to interface institutions capable of developing innovation or providing services in future programmes for the digitisation of cultural heritage.
