On July 6, at 2:30 p.m., Porto will host the first commemorative session “40 years of Science and Knowledge: training companies for new challenges”, which is also associated with the celebration of INESC TEC’s 35th anniversary. This will be a hybrid event: the invited speakers will be present at the auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), while the online participants will attend via an online Zoom webinar.
INESC TEC, as one of the institutions associated with INESC – alongside INESC Coimbra, INESC-ID, INOV INESC Inovação and INESC MN – is preparing to celebrate 35 years of history and the observance of another decade of INESC, established in 1980.
The programme is quite promising: Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, will participate as keynote speaker, while António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal, will be in charge of closing the event, alongside José Manuel Tribolet, President of INESC.
“Celebrating 40 years of INESC history is, above all, publicly acknowledging the tremendous ability of the Portuguese people to foster a future based on knowledge, science and technology”, said José Tribolet. In this sense, and since the motto for the event taking place in Porto is the capacity-building of companies, several representatives of the business sector will participate in the event.
António Amorim, President & CEO of Corticeira Amorim, António Mexia, President of EDP, Isabel Furtado, CEO of TMG Automotive and President of COTEC, Manuel Carlos, President of APICCAPS, and Paulo Azevedo, President of the Board of Directors of SONAE, will participate in a panel moderated by Manuel Carvalho, Director of the newspaper PÚBLICO, the official media partner.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a livestream of the event: those who are interested can register here (free of charge).
José Manuel Mendonça, Chairman of the Board of INESC TEC, will kick off the Porto session, and he would like to invite everyone to celebrate INESC and INESC TEC: “Besides discussing decades of experience, we will address the challenges that companies will present in the future. Not only the companies, but the country and society as well.”
The nationwide celebration of the 40th anniversary of INESC includes three sessions in 2020, focusing on different themes. After Porto, Lisbon will host the session “The ability to create new technology-based companies”, on October 8. Coimbra will close this cycle, with a session on “The relationship with the academic world” on October 2.
