INESC TEC welcomed a delegation of Brazilian businesspeople intent on the fields of Energy and the Sea

INESC TEC welcomed a delegation featuring more than a dozen representatives of Brazilian companies – accompanied by the Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency (AICEP) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) -, focusing mainly in the areas of Energy and the Sea.

The delegation, which travelled to Portugal during the visit of the President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, visited INESC TEC within the scope of the Portugal-Brazil Business Forum – whose main objective is to strengthen relations and partnerships between Portuguese and Brazilian entities. The members of the delegation were interested in learning more about the work developed at INESC TEC, considering how the institution is actively involved in Innovation and R&D within many of the areas explored during the Forum.

The visit included a welcome and presentation session of INESC TEC, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, José Manuel Mendonça, the presentation of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), by Luís Seca, Member of the Executive Board, and a presentation session of the Brazilian companies represented. Luís Seca and Aníbal Matos, Member of the Board of Directors, carried out a demonstration of technologies made-in INESC TEC, in the areas of Energy and the Sea.

According to José Manuel Mendonça, “the Brazilian entrepreneurs who visited INESC TEC were quite interested in INESC TEC’s general competencies, focusing on certain relevant issues in the area of Energy. The Institute’s ability to design projects in which multi- and inter-disciplinarity are vital requirements was widely acknowledged, as well as the possibility of developing direct R&D contracts to address the needs of many of these companies”, he concluded.

Vladimiro Miranda, President of INESC P&D Brasil, also attended the visit, presenting several examples of cooperative projects involving INESC P&D Brasil and INESC TEC, while emphasising the benefits of the joint work by both institutions to meet the needs of Brazilian companies.

According to Carlos Pinho, Business Developer of INESC TEC TEC4SEA, this was one of the most relevant outcomes of the meeting, also mentioning that “INESC TEC actively collaborates with Brazilian entities, having even established INESC P&D Brasil”. “This visit led to new opportunities for direct collaboration between INESC TEC, INESC P&D Brasil, and several Brazilian entities, and our close connection to AICEP and ApexBrasil was beneficial to expand the number of entities that can foster new opportunities for institutional cooperation”, he concluded.

This initiative also featured Andreia Passos, Manager of the International Relations Service, and Bernardo Silva, Area Manager at CPES.
