Hélder Fontes was invited as a keynote speaker to the 29th Seminar of the Thematic Network of Mobile Communications, presenting the topic “ns-3 as a Digital Twin for Wireless Testbeds”. The researcher from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) spoke about INESC TEC’s contributions to the ns-3 network simulator in a virtual event on February 4th.
During the lecture, Hélder Fontes introduced the ns-3 network simulator, explaining its objective, motivation, advantages and disadvantages when compared to results obtained through experimentations based on real network resources. He also presented the work he has been leading in the CTM Wireless Networks group, which seeks to promote a synergy between simulation and experimentation, bringing together the best of both worlds.
“This concept [of reproducing real network conditions in simulation] promotes synergy between simulation and experimentation, bringing advantages to the scientific community that does research on wireless networks”, said the researcher.
The Seminar of the Thematic Mobile Communications Network brings together the country’s research community in the field of mobile and wireless communications twice a year.
